When you want to go skiing, it’s of great importance to choose the right type of ski. The type of ski will influence your riding experience and abilities on- and off-piste.
In this blog we will help you find the right ski.
There are hundreds of types of skis, but which ski fits your experience and skills? First of all, it is important to know your skiing level and the kind of slopes you want to ride. Are you a first-time skier, or more experienced? Do you enjoy the adrenaline of off-piste, or do you prefer smoothly carving on the slopes? Wintersport-store.com will have a ski for everyone. The skis are divided into the following categories:
All mountain skis
The all mountain ski is a versatile ski with which you can go both on-piste and off-piste. I can carve on hardpack, but will also provide float in fresh snow. So, if you want to have the best of both worlds, this is the ideal ski. Here you can find our all mountain skis for men, and here for women. However, skis for both men and women have the same mechanisms. So if you find a ski that you like in the right size, don't worry about the assigned m/f.
All-round skis
The all-round ski is suitable for all types of slopes, but less for skiing in thick powder snow. This type of ski is a good ski for both beginners and advanced skiers that want to mainly stay on-piste. Of course, there are differences in types of all-round skis, but this is easy to see in the specifications whether the ski is more suitable for beginners or advanced. The all-round ski is easy to turn and well controllable. It is important that the ski is between chest/nose height. See our men's all-round skis, and ladies all-round skis. Again, the 'gender' of the ski doesn't need to match yours.
Slalom skis
The name of the type of ski says it all. The slalom ski is for moderate to experienced skiers that like to carve on-slope. The characteristics of a slalom ski are that it is easy to turn, and has good grip on the slope. Find here our slalom skis.
Race skis
The race ski is intended for an experienced skier, who likes to reach high speeds on the slopes. With the race ski you can easily reach high speeds, and carve sharply. The perfect edge grip is an important feature of the race ski. The length of the ski should be between shoulder height and own height. See here our race skis.
Freeride skis
The freeride ski is a very wide ski ideal for skiing through thick powder snow. The wide of the ski will give you more surface to stay on the powder. The freeride skis are intended for advanced skiers that like to go off-piste. Also, these skis often come as twintips, meaning you can ride forwards and backwards with them. The freeride skis should be as long as your body length. You can find our high quality freeride skis here.
Choosing the type of ski can be difficult. However, when you know what you like to do on or off the slopes, you will easily find your match. Moreover, what always will work is to try it out yourself. Just see what feels good, and don’t be afraid to try out different types.
